Cranked and COVID-19

I know, I know. You don’t want to read another pandemic post. I just wanted to update you on how it’s affecting what we do at Cranked, and what our plans for the next few months look like (at the moment – subject to change, of course).

Cranked #21

It’s going to be delayed. Sorry. But we will get it out to you.

By the time the UK was put in lockdown, earlier this week, we had perhaps 60-65% of the material we needed for our next issue. It’s not enough, there were too many gaps, and there’s now no way of filling them. So we’re sitting on all those great stories, and we’ll come back to them – hopefully for Cranked #22.

In the meantime, I have a plan for #21. I’m still working on it, and I might not even let on what it is before it comes back from print, so that it’s a surprise. But it will be different. Think of it as a collector’s issue.

We’re currently working towards a mid-June publication date, but that may change.

Cranked #22 and beyond

Cranked #22 is very likely to be delayed, too. Under normal circumstances it’d be due out in early August. I can’t see that happening, but bear with us and we’ll keep you updated as the situation unfolds. We do at least have a great head start on some fantastic content for it!

Overall, we’re in better shape to deal with COVID-19 than pretty much any other bike mag. We have tiny overheads and, because of our quarterly production schedule, we can nudge things a few weeks if we need to.

To help make sure Cranked survives and thrives through the uncertainty of the next year or so, I’m taking a temporary 100% pay cut, effectively immediately. Mine is the only salary at Cranked, and the remaining overheads are small and manageable. What this means is that your subscription renewals and other purchases will go directly towards funding the next issues.

Subscription renewals

They’ll continue as normal. It’s our intention that no subscriber will lose out… we just ask you to bear with us in terms of issue timings and so on.

Back issues

We’d like to do what we can to keep you entertained and inspired while you’re stuck at home. So all our in-stock back issues are significantly reduced in price, for everyone.

Even better, if you’re a subscriber, drop us a line and we’ll tell you how you can buy back issues for just the cost of the shipping. It’s our way of saying ‘thanks’ for bearing with us during these unsettling times.

If you’re not already a subscriber, signing up now will also qualify you for the back issue deal.

Our back issue stocks are finite, obviously, and we’re already seeing unprecedented demand…

International deliveries

Our warehouse is operating normally and following appropriate COVID-19 protocols to ensure staff and customer safety. However, it’s very likely that some international deliveries will be significantly delayed because of lack of flight availability. There’s really nothing we can do about this, other than to ask you to wait patiently – possibly for several weeks – for your copies of Cranked to arrive.

More info as it becomes available. Thanks for bearing with us!

Stay safe, stay well.

It’s all good. No doubt both 21 and 22 will be worth the wait. Thanks
